It is an odorless, colorless, flammable, viscous liquid. It has a sweet taste, but is toxic in high concentrations. Mono Ethylene Glycol has many uses, including:
Coolant & Heat Transfer Agent :MEG is used in ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
Chemical Intermediates :
Acid slurry can remove dirt, clay, oily stains, soap scum, and insoluble salts from clothes. It can also work as a water softener and emulsifier to prevent clothing fibers from fading. Acid slurry is used in many cleaning products, including laundry detergents, household cleaners, and floor cleaners.
Antifreezing : Acid slurry can be used as a mercerizing or washing agent in the textile industry. It can also be used to develop dyeing and printing agents.
Solvent : MEG is used as a solvent for rinsing semiconductors and treating fibers, paper, adhesives, printing inks, leather, and cellophane.
