Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) is a synthetic detergent and surfactant derived from coconut oil that's used in many personal care and household products. CAPB is soluble in water, ethanol, and isopropanol, but insoluble in mineral oil. The recommended use level for CAPB is 4–40%, depending on the desired foaming and cleansing effects. For rinse-off products, it can be used at a maximum concentration of 40%, while leave-in products should use a maximum concentration of 3%.
