Long-chain quaternary ammonium surfactants, such as cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) are generally combined with long-chain fatty alcohols, such as stearyl alcohols, in formulations of hair conditioners and shampoos. TCetyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (CTAC) is a colorless to pale yellow liquid that's used in a variety of products, including cosmetics, hair care products, and household cleaners:

Cosmetics : CTAC is a raw material that can be used to make many different cosmetics and personal care products, such as facial masks, scrubs, lotions, creams, moisturizers, serums, body butters, pressed powders, liquid foundation, mascara, deodorant soap, and shampoo.
Hair care products : CTAC is a main ingredient in hair shampoos and conditioners that can nourish and hydrate dry and damaged hair, and add shine.
Household cleaners CTAC is used in toilet cleaners and liquid stain removers because it's a cationic surfactant that can absorb onto negatively charged surfaces without leaving a visible film.
